NSE was recognised as a stock exchange in 1993 and since then has played a pivotal role in the growth of the Indian financial markets and the Indian economy. NSE is the world’s largest derivatives exchange for the 2nd consecutive year in 2020.
The Nifty 50 index was launched on April 22, 1996 with the base date of the index as November 3, 1995, which was the start date of equity trading on NSE.. The index which comprises of 50 large and liquid stocks traded on the NSE, has evolved over the years adopting global best practices.
NSE commenced trading in derivatives on June 12, 2000 with the launch of Nifty 50 Index Futures . This was followed by the launch of trading in Nifty 50 Index Options on June 4, 2001, Options on individual securities on July 2, 2001, and Futures on individual securities on November 9, 2001.
NSE is proud to celebrate 25 glorious years of India’s flagship Index Nifty 50 and 20 years of Equity Derivatives trading in India.
