Can Social Stock Exchange solve fund woes? NSE workshop infuses confidence to Kerala NGOs
National Stock Exchange organized an awareness workshop on Social Stock Exchange in Kochi. The workshop was organized with the idea of accelerating social reflection through social stock exchange. NSE-SSE organizes nationwide workshops for non-profit organizations, donors, investors etc. to increase awareness about this innovative electronic fund raising system as per SEBI's instructions. Earlier workshops were held in Bengaluru on May 7, Delhi on June 14 and Varanasi on August 31, 2024. The one in Kochi is the fourth in this series.
The workshop in Kochi was attended by 60 non-profit organizations, major investors, donors, philanthropists, etc. SEBI Social Stock Exchange Advisory Committee Chair Person Dr. R Balasubramaniam, SEBI Whole Time Member Amarjeet Singh, NSC Investor Awareness, Vice President Social Stock Exchange Vivek Harialka and others participated in the event.
Speaking at the event, Dr. R. Balasubramaniam pointed out. It is a credible alternative way of raising funds for both for-profit and non-profit socially conscious organizations. It is subject to public scrutiny. SSE can contribute significantly to fostering professionalism and objectivity and creating a culture of monitoring, measuring, documenting and reporting the social impact created by these institutions. R. said that its transparency and the opportunity to create social change is a win-win for everyone in this system. Balasubramaniam added.
A panel discussion on what social stock exchanges can do to empower socially responsible firms and strengthen partnerships for social reflection provided an opportunity for stakeholders to share ideas. Experts in the field shared their views, best practices, success stories, etc.
NSE plays an active role in making the social stock exchange a success. Ten projects of non-profit organizations to raise more than 22 crores through this system received great response. Many of these support the various UN sustainability goals.
